O Halloween é depois de amanhã! Está quase! Temos aqui amantes desta data?? Acusem-se! Esta é apenas uma das minhas alturas favoritas do ano e claro que não podia deixar passar sem fazer uma publicação alusiva ao tema! E que tal juntar duas coisas que adoro? Halloween + Cinema!
Halloween is the day after tomorrow! It’s almost here! Do we have lovers of this date?? Acccuse yourselves! This is just one of my favorite times of the year and of course I could not pass out an allusive publication to the topic! How about combining two things I love? Halloween + Cinema!
Então já sabemos que o Halloween está quase aí e, se são como eu e preferem vegetar em frente à Tv em vez de saírem de casa, este é o post ideal para vocês! Às vezes não é que não queira ir sair para alguma festa de Halloween… o problema é que nos ficamos sempre pelas ideias e o plano acaba sempre por ser o “mesmo”! E esse “mesmo” acaba por ser a melhor decisão! Sempre!
So we already know that Halloween is almost here and if you are like me and prefer to vegetate in front of the TV instead of leaving home, this is the ideal post for you! Sometimes it’s not that I don’t want to go out to some Halloween party … the problem is that we cling to ideas and the plan always ends up being the “same”! Eu sou uma amante de filmes de terror. Aliás… era! Mas o bichinho nunca morre! Eu deixei de ver filmes de terror quando o a minha ansiedade começou a piorar. Piorou de tal forma que a mais pequena mudança súbita num filme me provocava um trigger para um ataque de pânico. Hoje em dia, com alguma preparação consigo ver um filme completo, o que já é um grande avanço!
I love horror movies. In fact …I used to! But the little bug never dies! I stopped watching horror movies when my anxiety started getting worse. It worsened so much that the smallest sudden change in the film caused me to trigger a panic attack. Today, with some preparation I can watch a complete film, which is already a major breakthrough!

What types of horror movies do you like? Personally I like a lot of psychological terror and I really notice the details, settings, image planes and character building.

Shutter (2004)
Este filme foi um dos mais psicológicos que já vi! Shutter conta a história de um fotógrafo e da sua namorada que começam a ver vultos estranhos nas suas fotografias. Eles rapidamente percebem que não podem fugir dos eventos passados das suas vidas.
Este filme tem uma versão americana que não está, nem de perto, tão boa como a original tailandesa! Aviso que é um filme um pouco parado mas aconselho imenso!
This movie was one of most psychological that I’ve ever seen! Shutter tells the story of a photographer and his girlfriend that begin to see strange shadows in their photographs. They quickly realize they can not escape the past events of their lives.
This movie has an American version that is not anywhere near as good as the original Thai one! I warn you that it is a little slow but I really recommend it!
The Ring (2002)
O The Ring (adaptado do Ringu, 1998) tornou-se um clássico de terror do século XXI. Este filme é um exemplo de adaptação cinematográfica. Por outras palavras, apesar que haverem inúmeros filmes de terror asiáticos adaptados por Hollywood, poucos são aqueles que fazem justiça aos originais. Este filme é um dos poucos que faz.
The Ring é sobre uma jovem jornalista que fica encarregue de investigar um VHS que provoca a morte de várias pessoas ao fim de 7 dias.
The Ring (adapted from Ringu, 1998) has become a horror classic in the 21st century. This movie is an example in film adaptation. In other words, despite there being numerous Asian horror films adapted by Hollywood, few are those who do justice to the originals. This film is one of the few that does.
The Ring is about a young journalist who is in charge of investigating a VHS which causes the death of several people after 7 days.
El Orfanato (2007)
Este filme espanhol é o mais recente da lista mas a sua data de estreia (2007) não lhe tira mérito. Dizem que os filmes com crianças são os mais assustadores. Sabem porquê? Porque estamos a pegar em algo que à partida é puro e inocente e ao incorporarmos exorcismos e possessões etc estamos demonstrar que nem os mais inocentes estão livres da escuridão e do oculto.
Tudo começa quando uma senhora volta com a família para a sua casa de infância. A casa era um antigo orfanato para crianças com problemas de saúde e mobilidade. As coisas tornam-se mais obscuras quando o filho da senhora começa a comunicar com um amigo invisível.
This is the latest movie from the list but its release date (2007) does not take away its merit. They say that movies with children are the scariest. You know why? Because we are taking something that from the start is pure and innocent and by incorporating exorcisms and possessions etc. we are showing that even the most innocent aren’t free of darkness and the occult.
It all starts when a woman comes back with her family to her childhood home. The house was a former orphanage for children with health and mobility problems. Things start to become more obscure as the woman’s son starts to communicate with an invisible friend.
The Shining (1980)
O The Shining é o filme! Tudo nele está fantástico. Deste a imagem, a história, o conceito e a banda sonora! Simplesmente fantástico. Escrito por Stephen King e dirigido por Stanley Kubrick… Que mais se pode querer?
The Shining começa quando Jack Torrance recebe uma oferta para cuidar de um hotel que tem um passado bastante obscuro e violento. Jack percebe que esta pode ser uma oportunidade para escrever e viaja com a família para o hotel isolado. Entretanto toda a frustração de Jack e a violência induzida pelas forças ocultas presentes no local começam a tornar Jack violento e fora de si. Danny, seu filho, portador do “shining” começa também a ter visões psíquicas durante a estadia.
The The Shining is THE movie! Everything about it is fantastic. From the image, the story, the concept and the soundtrack! Simply amazing. Written by Stephen King and directed by Stanley Kubrick … What more can you want?
The Shining begins when Jack Torrance receives an offer to take care of a hotel that has a quite dark and violent past. Jack realizes that this may be an opportunity to write and so travels with his family to the secluded hotel. However all Jack’s frustration and violence induced by hidden forces present at the site begin to make Jack violent and out of himself. Danny, his son, bearer of “shining” also begins to have psychic visions during the stay.

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
Dizem que os filmes de terror asiáticos são bastante obscuros e “fortes”, dizem que também são um pouco parados, no entanto esse compasso lento apenas cria uma melhor empatia da parte do espectador. A Tale of Two Sisters é um filme coreano estranho, um pouco parado mas extremamente bom!
O filme segue a história de duas irmãs que passaram imenso tempo internadas numa clínica psiquiátrica e voltam para casa com o seu pai e a sua mulher. Durante toda a longa metragem vemos as raparigas a “lutarem” contra a madrasta descompensada enquanto tentam recuperar toda a memória que ficou suprimida durante o internamento.
A Tale of Two Sisters também teve direito a remake americano em 2009 com o nome de The Uninvited, que apesar de não estar tão bom como o original também é interessante de ver.
They say that Asian horror movies are quite obscure and “strong”, they also say they are also a bit slow, however this slow compass only creates a better empathy from the viewer. A Tale of Two Sisters is a strange Korean film, a little slow but very good!
The movie follows the story of two sisters who have spent a lot of time hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic and return home with his father and his wife. Throughout the feature film we see the girls “fighting” against a decompensated stepmother as they try to recover all of the memory that was suppressed during hospitalization.
A Tale of Two Sisters also had the right to American remake in 2009 with the name The Uninvited, which although not as good as the original is also interesting to watch.
